'William was born to Norah and William in the summer of 1850 on the 21st of February, a brother to Thomas (6), James (4), and Elizabeth (2). The birth certificate of his first daughter states that he was born at Cherry Tree Hill, located between Lithgow and Mudgee, indicating his arrival may have been unexpected, coming while the family was on the road possibly working for the Reeves or Cox families. According to records of William’s baptism the family was living around Pyramul at the time with his father described as a settler.'
