James Hundy
1845-1919
‘One of the whitest men the Castlereagh has known has gone to his rest, honoured and respected by all,’ is how James Hundy was remembered in the Coonamble Times upon his sudden death according to the Dubbo Liberal on the 11th of November 1919.. James Hundy had risen to a position of prominence in the prosperous Coonamble district in north west N.S.W. on the back of sheep and cattle after establishing pastoral interests and a family butchery which had been successful for a number of years. He had also been a strong contributor to public life in Coonamble having served as an alderman and was prominent in the local Catholic community and president of the Coonamble Amateur Turf Club.
