John Hundy

c.1862-1943

Chapter 16 - John Edward Hundy
Picture
'John was the youngest of ten children born to William and was probably named in honour of his older brother, also named John, who died tragically at just under three years of age, five or six years before his birth. A quiet and reserved man, John never had the same public profile as some of his older siblings, he did, however, continue the Hundy tradition of wool growing and shearing, and his property, ‘Green Hills,’ formed part of the large area dominated by Hundy families in the Campbells Creek, Meroo, and Pyramul areas during the twentieth century. William Hundy was fifty-four and his wife, Catherine, forty-five when they had their last child around 1862. Just as for his older brother Thomas, no birth certificate or baptism registration exist for John, though, later records reveal he was also born at Merri Merri while William and his family were living in the area south west of Coonamble along the Castlereagh River'.
